Question:
Has anyone experiecned a bad reaction to getting allergy shots? My
reactions keep getting worse. By that I mean the mark on your arm last week
repeated the same shot as week before and the mark after about 5 hours was
the size of a grapefruit. I suffer from terrible sinus pressure and
headaches every morning is terrible and they say it may be allergies all the
sinus ct scans turn out okay. I am at my wits end any help would be
appreciated.
Answer:
Certainly you've told or shown this large size lump to your Dr/Allergist?
If not, you should. Btw, what size is it after 1/2 or 1 hour? My Son's
would get to be like a Walnut after about 2 hours (well past the serious
time frame) and the Allergist's Nurse gave him a certain cream to rub on it
to help. This is not necessary and not acceptable. You are being given an
overdose of something in your present extract. There is an
understandable reluctance on the part of the administering nurse to drop
the dose by a great amount, as it is known that the larger the dose
achieved after build-up, the better the result. If you are receiving a
mixture of antigens it may be that your marked sensitivity to one of
them is holding the total dose down, thus preventing increasing dosage
of the others. This is the perfect situation in which to split the
extract; you might for instance be given pollens in one site, dust in
another, and molds in yet another. This sounds like a lot of shots, but
should be only temporary. When it is discovered which is the antigen
that is causing the local reactions, two extracts are prepared; one with
the reacting material alone, the other with all the rest. Then you can
receive two shots on each visit, each with its own build-up schedule,
depending on the individual tolerance. If you are having trouble in the mornings that points to a different,
environmental allergen problem. Vacuum the bedroom, dust everything, move
the books out, use an air filter, clean off the mold. That's not a slur on
your housekeeping. In Seattle, mold will grow many places. I have a mold
problem in my bedroom. Synthetics pillows and blankets are your friend, no
down or wool where you sleep. And washable bedding for the animal if an
animal sleeps in your room. Yeah, you're supposed to not let the animal
sleep in the bedroom, but I could never stick to that! Oh, and get the heat
ducts vacuumed if you have a furnace, and change the furnace filter. If you
have a baseboard heater, vacuum the heck out of it. jdoee and Stacey Dog
I was having a reaction to my shot. I would get a welt the size of a
quarter, lasting a few days, itchiness at the site and my eyes would tear up
terrible. My injections were separated, suspected mold, and sure enough one
arm had a welt and the other did not. So now I get two shots, one for mold
and all the others in a second. The nurse even added extra saline to the
mold injection to help with the site reaction. The mold injection is being
held steady and the other allergens are still being increased. I am happy to
say that I did not have any reaction to the mold shot yesterday! And still
no reaction at the other site. In fact I feel so great today that I was
tempted to not take my Claritin. ;o) These shots are working for me. I can finally blow my nose after being
unable to for a few years. The allergy meds must be working better. I was
told that would be the first thing I would notice. Also the watery eyes have
gotten much better. Talk to the nurse or see your doctor. You should not
have welts that size! There are things they can do to prevent that.
