Natural remedy for allergies?

Question:
I've noticed my allergies getting worse, as I get older. I have the typical symptoms, itchiness, irritated eyes. I think it's the mold spores that are the culprits. Years ago, my mother used to drink a mix of honey and vinegar, to counteract her allergies. Do any of you have any home remedies that you take, or even certain types of vitamins that will help with this? Should I avoid certain foods this time of year?

Answer:
Vitamin C is supposedly a natural anti histamine. but you have to take very high doses like a thousand mg three times a day, I've tried and the results were not as good as I had hoped but there was a mild improvement. but I should warn you that high doses of Vitamin C have been known to cause diarea At the risk receiving a heap of abuse, I also have increasing allergies to all kinds of things as I get older. I now am trying to balance asthma as well, which for me, seems to be the culmination of my allergies. Here's what I do to try not to have to use the inhaler my doctor gave me (the potential side effects are scary) with a fair success so far: guaifenesin syrup 2x/day to thin the phlegm that seems to escalate into asthma oregano tincture 2x/day or more as needed - helps the post nasal drip and sinusitis stinging nettle tincture 2x/day or more as needed 2 gms Natural Vit. C with bioflavanoids 4-5x/day - seems fairly effective as an antihistamine When I have a bad day, I add: Nasalcrom as needed Claritin if it's really bad (not with the decongestant) At night only, if I'm having a major allergy attack, I'll take an otc antihistamine. Mullein tincture if I'm coughing a lot. For coughs or that barely noticeable just beginning to wheeze feeling I'm beginning to recognize so well, I take a lot of Ricola original cough drops. I also periodically add echinacea tincture when I feel a little more under the weather. My doctors insist allergies make one more at risk for colds and flu. Echanacea might also help with the allergies - hard to tell. It seems pretty effective for me most of the time at warding off actual disease. On this regimen, I haven't needed the inhaler for 3 months now, despite major allergy season and having to step up my allergy treatment. i'm also having an easier time with the constant post nasal drip most days than when I just used Nasacrom and claritin pre-asthma. Some people swear it's the dairy products that cause all the allergies, but it seems to have no effect either way on me. I've also read that yogurt is supposed to help with allergies. so go figure. disclaimer: this is what I do to treat my problem. I have nothing to sell and I'm not insisting this is the answer to everyone's allergies. I don't think that the comparative low dosage of vit C that you indicate will be sufficient. I have seen it proposed that that 3 to 5 times that amount is necessary. But such high doses should not be taken consistently. Garlic does also help in high doses. I recently tried it after a recommendation from lilweed here. But had to cut back because I was told that my body odour was extreme.
